Oracy - our journey with Voice 21

As part of our Voice 21 journey, we have developed a mission statement showing our intention and commitment to developing oracy standards across the school:

'At St. John’s C.E Primary school, we endeavour to provide opportunities for children to express themselves thoroughly and fairly. We aim to equip children with the tools to confidently showcase what they know, how they learn and detail their own thoughts and feelings. All staff are confident in leading discussion in classrooms, no matter the topic or circumstance, and talk is constructive, fruitful and plentiful. Consistency in oracy and talk will be evident and regular CPD in this area will maintain the expectations we have regarding speaking and learning.'

Through exploratory and presentational talk, children will develop their oracy skills through an enriched curriculum whilst using talk strategies and tools staff have been introduced to. Each class will have their own discussion guidelines that show progression and development of talk throughout the year. For more information about the intention of using Voice 21 strategies across the school, please see our policy.
