History

At St John's Primary School, our history curriculum meets the national curriculum's statutory needs, and is designed to meet the needs of all pupils at St John's CE Primary School. History is valued as an important part of children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum and planned to build disciplinary and substantive knowledge continually. At St. John's, we intend to provide a history curriculum that aims to inspire our children’s curiosity to know more about the past. Thus, we aim to ignite a passion for history, to equip our pupils with the disciplinary and substantive knowledge to become historians.

Our history curriculum is carefully planned and structured to ensure progression across topics throughout each year group across the school. This way, teaching history allows our pupils to compare and contrast, explore how and why things have changed, and learn about significant people and events while expanding their disciplinary knowledge of research.

In Reception, we begin teaching about history as our children begin developing their disciplinary and substantive knowledge of the world by starting with the most recent past.
