Clean Air Crew
Project Leaders: TBC
About This Project:
We are proud to be a member of Sefton's 'Clean Air Crew'! For this exciting project, we will be finding ways to monitor air pollution around our school grounds and come up with a plan to reduce this.
As part of this project, we are thrilled to announce that our application to be part of Sefton's 'Air Watch' programme has been accepted! This will allow us to monitor air pollution around our school grounds using a NOX Diffusion Tube which will be sent off each month to Sefton Council who will analyse the levels of Nitrogen Oxide in our air.
Updates:
May 2023 - Beginning The Wall
Our school councillors have spent a few weeks preparing plastic bottles and beginning to plant a few plants in them! So far we have planted Lavender and Geraniums.
July 2022 - 'Wear Something Blue' Day
We will be trying to raising funds to buy plants, compost and tools to begin creating our living wall next week.
July 2022 - Collecting Plastic Bottles
We've begun to collect some medium-large plastic bottles to use to make our living wall.
June 2022 - Living Wall!
Having monitored our air quality for the past few months, we have found out that it is quite clean. There is, however, still room for improvement! We have a school council meeting to decide what we could do to improve our air quality.
We voted to create a living wall on one of our railings. Plans for this as still ongoing.
January 2022 - First NOX Diffusion Tube Installed!
At lunch time today our School Councillors responsible for our NOX Diffusion Tube installed our first one onto our building. We will leave it for a month before replacing it with a new tube and sending it off to Sefton to be analysed. We are really looking forward to finding out just how clean our air is around our school grounds!
December 2021 - Diffusion Tube Holder Installation
We welcomed a visitor from Sefton Council who explained to us all about our NOX Diffusion Tube and how it works. It has a filter in the cap which captures Nitrogen Oxide air particles. We will install our first tube in January after Christmas. After a month, we will be sent a new tube in the post which our project leaders will replace our current tube with. Our current tube will then be posted off to Sefton Council and will be sent to a lab for analysis.
